" First I was afraid, I was petrified..."

Sometimes the idea of having to do something different can mean that we remain stuck in our old ways. It's more comfortable that way and maybe no one will notice. But every so often we do need to be challenged and try something new. So, harnessing our Hoffman spirit, we have decided to practise what we preach and try something new.  'Courage, mon brave....'

This year we are launching a series of 1-day Survival Workshops. "At last," we hear you cry "What took you so long?"

So, for all of you with teenage children, we are going to hold our first "How to Survive being a Teenager" workshop in the Easter holidays. We interviewed our own children (once we could get their eyes off a screen) and have created a very experiential and informative workshop for 14-19 year olds. Now all we have to do is 'invite' them to come along...

In response to several requests, we have also designed some 1- day Parenting Workshops, "How to survive being a Parent" for those of you who are planning a family or with children who haven't yet made it to the teenage years. Read more about these workshops below and on our website. Numbers are limited, so best to book your places fast.

Our inspiring Graduate story this month is about our Hoffman Supervising teacher and therapist, Eliza Meredith, and how she survived a belated Gap year and made some interesting changes to her life.

Thank you for giving us your feedback, and we hope that you can use the next few months, to introduce more Hoffman opportunities to you and your family.

Wishing you

The Hoffman Team

From Therapy to Therapist
"Back in 2000 I was the mother of two teenage children, feeling, as many do in their early 40's, a lack of meaningful achievement, a sense of time running out, and a burning question...who am I?

On the surface my life looked good. But the truth was that I was struggling to identify who I really was underneath the role of daughter, wife and mother. My spiritual life had no form and little content. I could see that my working life had been a series of random, opportunistic and luckily, interesting jobs, primarily chosen to fit around the care of my children.

I'd been in therapy for some years dealing with childhood trauma, including the death of my father when I was five and, while I'd made progress, little in my behaviour had fundamentally shifted. A good friend had returned from the Hoffman Process, sparkly-eyed, energetic and focused, and most importantly, more 'herself'. The prospect of eight days of continuous exploration, as opposed to one hour psychotherapy sessions, ending with my having to collect the kids from school or whatever, had huge appeal...."

How to survive being a Parent

Being a parent can be one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences a person can have. It can also offer a whole host of unforeseen challenges that can leave parents feeling confused or frustrated as to whether their parenting approach is 'the right one'.

To help support parents, Hoffman have designed a 1-day Parenting Workshop that aims to reassure and enhance peoples parenting skills. The workshop draws on a range of established teachings including using the 'tried and tested' Hoffman tools to support you as a parent and also offers tips to adapt the Hoffman tools to use with your children. The workshops are a mixture of educational and interactive experiences and are Open to All. There is no need to have completed the Hoffman Process to attend.

How to survive being a Teenager

Being a teenager can be a very confusing and challenging time. One moment they can feel on top of the world and the next it's all doom and gloom and "No one understands me!" Let's face it; we've all been there!

To support teenagers (and their parents!) in this phase of their lives, Hoffman have designed a 1-day workshop that aims to offer teens a 'toolbox for life', a range of transferable skills that will assist them to navigate the transition into adult life more smoothly. The workshop draws on a range of established teachings including the Hoffman tools to support them with the challenges this phase of life can bring.

The focus is on fun learning through experiential activities. Whether it's a teenager facing problems at school, in their friendships, with parents, personal relationships, identity or self esteem issues - this workshop has something to offer. The workshop is for 14-19 year olds.

Support Call - Happiness - Wednesday 13th February                                              Back to Top

This month's Support Call on Wednesday 9th January, 7.30pm - 8.45pm is focused on Happiness and is led by Supervising Hoffman teacher, Matthew Pruen.

It's often said that we have an internal 'happiness setting' based on our childhood experiences. Even a piece of wonderful news is likely to cause only a temporary spike in our level of happiness, which sooner or later will settle back to where it was before. On this call you can identify any persistent patterns or vicious circles which still affect your happiness and find exit strategies and tools to help you step into greater joy in your life.

Led by Supervising Hoffman teacher Matthew Pruen, these calls are ideal when you finish your post Process Support Groups and want to reconnect to the Process tools. We also welcome Hoffman graduates who've been 'out of the loop' and want a fresh perspective. In short - if you've done the Process - wherever you live - this one's for you..!
