In the first of our three webinars Living with the Enneagram, Tim Laurence will be looking at the relationship and communication styles of The Reactive Types (Four, Six and Eight)
We will cover how each Type sees the world and how they relate to others. Knowing yourself and understanding others will give far clearer communication as well as intimacy with those closest to you.
Hoffman’s regard for the Spiritual Self or Essence, along with its thorough covering of behaviour patterns is an ideal match for the Enneagram. What the Enneagram brings is a highly detailed map of both the patterns and the Essence underneath.
If you’ve ever thought: “I just don’t get why people don’t behave reasonably like me’ or ‘I feel like such a misfit’, these evenings will provide a load more answers.
Introducing the Reactive Types
- The Four – The Individualist, special and different in style, oriented towards the deeper feelings and meanings of life.
Pros: sensitive, artistic, in tune with a more profound rhythm. Cons: yearning for what isn’t there, self-absorbed, overly attached to suffering. Also known as the Tragic Romantic.
- The Six – The Loyalist, doubting, with fear of the future. Also known as the Loyal Sceptic.
Pros: has already seen the worst-case and prepared for it. Cons: always imagining a negative outcome, doubting and catastrophising.
- The Eight – The Challenger, used to looking for truth and justice, and not frightened of confronting authority for that end. A huge lust for life.
Pros: big energy for living, champion of the underdog. Cons: ’too much’, bull in a china shop, denying their own vulnerability. Also known as the Protector.
No prior knowledge of the Enneagram is needed, and you don’t need to have done the Hoffman Process to attend. Knowing your Type, and perhaps recognising other people’s Types is a good start, but not essential – you’ll certainly have come across many examples of the Types being explored in your life. You can read a Q&A with TIm that explains more here
