WHERE WE ARE

Florence House lies in a quiet position on the outskirts of the popular seaside town of Seaford, nestling at the bottom of Seaford Head Golf Course. Seaford lies midway between the larger and better known business and entertainment centres of Eastbourne and Brighton on the south coast, each about 10 miles distant. The historic and county town of Lewes is about 12 miles to the north.

THE HOUSE

Florence House was built in the 1920's by a local merchant as a wedding present for his daughter. It was used by the Canadian military during the war, then became a boys school. It has been extensively refurbished with a large course room, lounge, dining room, oak panelled study, and accommodation for about 24 course participants plus their tutors.

The estate is about six and a half acres within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has views of Seaford Head, the golf course, and across Seaford to the white cliffs and the sea.

By Train - From Victoria every 30 mins, change at Lewes for Seaford. Takes approx. 1 hour 20 mins. There are usually taxis at the station. Let the driver know that Florence House was called Down Head School and is up by Seaford Head golf course. The telephone number for National Rail Enquiries is: 08457 48 49 50. By Air -From Gatwick Airport, take the train at South Terminal for Lewes and follow the directions above.
From Heathrow Airport, Express coaches run to Gatwick airport every 15 minutes. Take train at Gatwick Airport station for Lewes and Seaford, following the directions above.

By Car-The website for planning your car journey is: The AA and the Florence House postcode is BN25 4JS. Travelling east on A27 from Worthing/Brighton, follow signs to Newhaven/Lewes. At roundabout after the rail crossing you have a choice between Lewes and Newhaven; take A26 to Newhaven /Seaford

In Newhaven follow sign to the left for Seaford A259. Just before Seaford look for signs to Seafront on right. Drive along seafront past a low tower (Museum with cannon on top), take first left away from sea, then immediate right onto College Road, then first left into Corsica Road. At the end of this road is Florence House.*

If you are in Seaford town, having come along the coast road, go straight across the roundabout down the high street. Continue straight until you see Meads Road on your right, slow down, as Southdown Road comes up next on your right. There is a telephone and post box on the corner. Follow signs for Seaford Head Golf Course. Travel straight down Southdown Road (it is bisected twice by other roads; keep going until the road surface deteriorates. Florence House is just before the golf course on the left . *It stands alone behind a surrounding stone wall. The first entrance takes you to the front door. Park and go into the house through the main entrance. You will then be met and shown where to park long term, round the back.

The second entrance takes you to a parking area at the back of the house. You can enter the house through a courtyard, go through the kitchen/dining area to the main hall. For a street map, you can click on:
