"Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be...Close your eyes let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before." Erich Fromm

Hoffman Graduate Victoria Clarke has written movingly in the Guardian recently of her lifelong search for the father she never knew. At difficult times in her life she put him on a pedestal, imagining him coming to her aid. When she finally met him their relationship came under strain as she felt the long-suppressed anger at her percieved abandonment.

Victoria says: Some time later, I did a thing called the Hoffman Process, which is described as the Rolls-Royce of therapies and does in eight days what normally takes eight years. As part of it, I forgave my father for not being the father I had wanted him to be. For not being the type of father who protected me and advised me and adored me and provided for me and remembered my birthday. I tried to see things as he might have seen them, when my mother was pregnant....

Victoria's story illustrates how much the relationship between parents and children can be complicated by the tremendous expectations they can have of each other. The Hoffman Process aims to take us back into our childhood to understand our experiences from a place which allows us to feel real compassion, both for ourselves as children and for our parents in their own situation.

What Should I Be Doing with my Life? Lesley Garner isn't shy of tackling this big question in her Lifeclass column in the Daily Telegraph this month:

Lesley describes this particular dilemma as: .. a really exciting question, because we are freer than we think to shape our own lives and it needn't take decades to shake off the weight of our education and the expectations of others before we dare try that thing we've wanted to do all along.

She also warns that: Personal revolution is a high- risk business. You could lose everything, or you could find that, once the dust has settled, your life and your relationships have improved.

So, asks Lesley, How do you begin to take control of your own life - especially when you have allowed other people to dictate its course? Follow the link below to find out the answer.
