QUICK LINKS

Research into what factors contribute most to our personal happiness and growth consistently show that it is having a strong sense of community and frequent, enthusiastic community celebration to express our joy and gratitude.  Conversely, isolation can contribute greatly to depression.

Ironically it's when we most need support and encouragement that many of us disappear under the duvet, get super busy at work or any number of strategies which make us inaccessible to help.

One of the benefits of the Process for many people is being able to change the pattern of isolating under stress so that they're able to reach out; not only to loved ones and colleagues, but also to friends made during the Process and in the wider Hoffman community.

Hoffman is in 14 countries worldwide and it's great to see Graduates from all over the world posting and connecting with each other on our Facebook page and our Hoffman Blog/RSS Feed. These connections are extended through self support groups and support calls.

We're now inviting those of you who have done the Process to keep spreading this sense of community via video diaries, such as the one below, and to get in touch if you have a story to tell for our newsletter.

If this issue inspires you to connect more deeply in your relationships, you could join our Singles Workshop on 3rd September or our Couples Workshop on 10th December in Bloomsbury, London. These are open to everyone, whether you've done the Process or not,

As for 'enthusiastic community celebration', there is nothing like the Process for putting you back in touch with fun, joy and a sense of gratitude - our parties are legendary. We'd love you to join us at the Hoffman Summer Party on 10th September.

We hope you find plenty of reasons to celebrate this month.

Hoffman Graduates - Community Spirit                                                                     Back to Top

Often doing the Hoffman Process can make us aware how much we have benefited, both as a child and as an adult, from the selfless giving of others and how much difference this has made, coupled with a renewed vision for our life this can re-ignite our passion for our work and lead to us putting more emphasis on giving to our community and the wider world.

A Neat Idea...
One example of this is Hoffman Graduate and Entrepreneur, Jon Treanor who did the Process in 2009 when he found that his life was no longer satisfying and wanted to find out where he wasn't being nourished. In his words; 'The Process helped me discover that I'd been feeding my ego and my bank balance but I'd forgotten to feed my soul.'

A few months after the Process he took part in a BBC Series called The Big Silence which involved taking time to be in silent retreat. This gave him more time to reflect and as a result he decided to train in Transpersonal Psychotherapy. During his therapy training he became aware of the problems young people face in his community whom the Government describes as NEETS (Not in Education, Employment or Training). He realised that councils often don't find it easy to talk to local businesses and vice versa, so he became that bridge and created Social Interface. This innovative, not-for-profit enterprise is aimed at helping young people classified as NEETS to get into work. Companies pay an annual fee and are sent NEETS for 3 months; at the end of each person's 3 month work placement they can give them a reference or employ them. A leading government figure will be launching the project in October and we wish Jon the very best with such a worthwhile venture. He can be contacted at: jon@social-interface.co.uk

Share Your Passion...
Aaron Horn did the Hoffman Process last year when impending fatherhood made him question how parenting patterns are passed down the generations. He was keen to find out how to create a healthy family dynamic and be the father he wanted to be. Work-wise he had already started a voluntary Youth Project helping young people with skills such as singing, songwriting and producing music, but the joy had begun to go out of his own music. Following his Process he felt more confident with his creativity; he began to write more mainstream pop music, moving into areas that he hadn't felt able to risk before. He also expanded his Youth Project to include more  communities. He now says that he feels much more comfortable in his own skin and in his role as a father. Having re-connected with his own childhood experiences on the Process, he's also more relaxed and understanding around the young people that he teaches and influences.

Aaron is concerned that most government funded community projects that he had been helping with have now been cut due to the recession, so he's keen for all of us to know just how easy and satisying it is to share our skills and passion with our community. The studio where he works has donated old equipment to his Youth Project and he says he feels almost selfish at times as he enjoys his voluntary work so much. As well as giving young people skills and focus it gives him more back than he ever expected: "Just go down to your local community centre and offer your skills - getting involved is so easy and so rewarding" .

Support Call - Dealing with Loss/Moving On - Wednesday 7th September                     Back to Top

Are you aware of loss, pain and grief in your life?

Sometimes it is helpful to stop and check. Often the pain we feel when we face up to loss drives us into horrible vicious circles. Patterns of avoidance, suppression and soothing the pain with our behavioural and substance addictions which can negatively dominate days, weeks and months.

As understandable and human as this impulse to avoid pain is, it often has the counter-productive effect of keeping us stuck in the pain rather than daring to feel it and move on. The courage to try something different can make the difference between indulging our patterns and honouring the truth of our grief, allowing it to flow through us and letting go of the past.

If you feel stuck and blocked around events in the past, then join Matthew Pruen for the support call on Wednesday 7th September and reconnect to practical Hoffman tools. Honour your experience, freeing yourself to rejoin life and all it has to offer.

'I want to share my experience of the support call. The topic was The Dark Side and I signed up on the day with no problem. I felt I wanted to stay in touch with the Hoffman spirit. There were people from all over the world and who graduated from 1-14 years ago. It was very comforting and valuable to hear everyone's short story and picking up useful tips. It's really a great way to stay in touch and refresh some memories...' Love Betti x

Hoffman Graduates - Video Diaries                                                                            Back to Top

Have you got a story to tell..?

Would you share your experience about the Process and how it has changed you, your life and those around you?

We are looking to create a selection of video diaries for our website and Facebook etc, in order to share your experiences of the Process to the wider community. This will support the decision making process for those people considering enrolling onto the course.

Do you remember on your Process how you were encouraged to share the gifts of your experience with your friends, family, community and the wider world? Bob's vision has always been "Creating world peace - One person at a time." So now is an opportunity to share your experiences with the wider world on how the Process can have a transformational effect and in doing so, keep Bob's vision alive.

Whether we film you as in David's clip, or whether you create your own on your mobile or web cam, we would love to hear from you! If you have any questions or if this is something you feel you would like to take part in, please try and keep your clips to a maximum of 3 minutes and email them to:

jo@hoffmaninstitute.co.uk

Happy filming everyone..!
